To celebrate Keep America Beautiful month, the City of Richardson is once again joining forces with Keep Texas Beautiful to hold a Trash Bash, a City-wide clean-up effort to rid Richardson streets, parks, and waterways of litter.  In conjunction with Trash Bash, we are sponsoring a "Transform Trash Into Treasure" contest.

All citizens, social organizations, and civic groups are invited to participate in this event to help clean up the community from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 3rd. In honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day, every participant will receive a small tree (shubard oak sapling) for doing his or her part.

Trash bags, release forms, and assignments of areas will be made available at a come and go pre-event meeting on Thursday, April 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Richardson Civic Center Heights Room.  On Saturday, participants will meet at their designated street, park, or area to fill their bags with litter and recyclables.

This year, the Grand Hall at the City Hall/Civic Center is reserved.  Beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (411 W. Arapaho Road), participants will enjoy activities, refreshments, door prizes, and distribution of the free saplings!

For more information, or to register by phone, please call the Health Department at 972-744-4076.

Why Join Scouting?

In 1930, the Boy Scouts of America created a new opporunity called Cub Scouting for boys younger than Boy Scout age. A year-round,home-centered program used by chartered organizations, Cub Scouting emphasizes involvement between boys and their parents, adult leaders and friends. In the multidimensional plan of Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouting is where it all begins.

Cub Scouting has the following purposes:

*Influences a boy's character development .

*Develops habits and attitudes of good citizenship.

*Encourages sportsmanship and pride. Growth of a strong mind and body.

*Improved understanding within the family.

*Strengthens a boy's ability to get along with others.

*Fosters personal achievment. Develops new interests and skills.

*Provides fun and exciting things to do.

*Shows a boy how to be helpful and do his best.

*Prepares him to be a Boy Scout.
